Angels
Jacqui's work on angels looks at references from Genesis to Revelation. The work includs three dimensional pieces and is worked with metal and fabric, photographic images, storyboards and includs a contemporary song by Paul Field from his show cargo.
These five double screens are an exploration of the angels' work as described in the Bible:
- the first screen, worked in aluminium rod, has burnt, synthetic green and red feathers, and depicts the dark angel, banished from heaven for trying to usurp God
- the second screen, also worked in aluminium rod and silk fabric feathers, is symbolic of the light angel who led the people of Israel through the wilderness and leads each one of us today
- the third screen, worked in applique, narrates the Christmas story and the angels bringing messages to Mary, Joseph and the shepherds concerning the birth of the Messiah
- the fourth screen has two powerful photographic images of contemporary people in need - there is a strip of transparent fabric, with delicate stitching, representing God's angels in the centre of every situationa and personal disaster
- the fifth screen has two 3d transparent gold wings heavily machine embroidered and hand beaded to try to capture a little of the glory of the 'heavenly places' where God abides - behind the screens are the words from Isaiah where the angels shout out the holiness of God and carry burning coals to cleanse us from all wrong doing
